Past the Automotive News Top 150every dealer group as a structured record
The Automotive News Top 150 Dealership Groups is an annual ranking of the 150 largest United States groups by new-vehicle sales, and it reports a figure we simply do not hold: how many vehicles each group sold. Hermes Data answers a different question at a different width - 1,432 dealer groups as records with rooftop rosters, franchise mix, operating states across 62 states and provinces, headcount and provider mix, at 5 credits each.
Where can I get a list of dealer groups beyond the Top 150 ranking?
Read the ranking for sales volume; use Hermes Data for reach. Automotive News ranks the 150 largest United States dealership groups each year on the new vehicles they sold, and distributes it through its own Data Center. That sales figure is the one thing the ranking has and we do not - a Hermes Data group record carries no unit sales and no revenue. What it carries instead is structure, across far more of the market: 1,432 groups, each with member rooftop count, the pipe-delimited franchise footprint across the portfolio, operating states and countries, combined live inventory, total and headquarters headcount, average years in business, distinct website providers with the top one named, and the full rooftop roster with join keys back to individual dealerships. Groups cost 5 credits each and come out of the portal as a CSV.

What the ranking has that we do not
It reports new-vehicle sales per group, gathered and checked by Automotive News, and orders the largest 150 by that number. Nothing in our schema substitutes for it - we hold no unit sales and no revenue. If your question is who sold the most last year, that ranking is the source, and we would rather point you at it than pretend our fields answer it.
The long tail is where the market is
Most dealer groups are not household names and never enter a list of 150. They own three, six, eleven rooftops in one or two states, and there are thousands of them among our 1,432 records. If your product suits an owner who is past a single store but has no corporate procurement function, that tail is your entire addressable market.
Rosters move, so we track them
Kerrigan Advisors reported 478 dealership buy/sell transactions in the twelve months ending March 2026, a record and 114% above the pre-pandemic norm. Rooftops change parents constantly. A group record that names its members is only useful if someone keeps re-cutting it, which is why ours is not an annual artifact.
Group-level technographics
Each group carries the count of distinct website providers across its stores, the most common one, and the full provider mix as provider:count pairs. That tells you at a glance which groups are standardized on one stack and which are mid-consolidation - a better opening than portfolio size alone.

What is in a Hermes Data dealer group record?
Group name and ID, member rooftop count, combined live inventory, the franchise footprint across the portfolio, operating states and countries, total and headquarters employee and decision-maker counts, average years in business, distinct website providers with the top provider and full provider mix, and the roster of member rooftops by name with IDs that join to our per-rooftop Dealers file. It does not include how much the group sold.
