What is the US dealer groups database?
The US dealer groups database is Hermes Data's rollup layer above the rooftop: one record per parent company that owns multiple dealerships, covering 1,432 groups across the United States and Canada. Its geography works differently from a rooftop database. A rooftop sits in exactly one state, but a group carries operating_states and operating_countries rolled up from every rooftop it owns, so a group shows up under each state it operates in and a filter on operating_state returns companies with a store there - not companies headquartered there. That is the right behaviour for national sales leadership deciding whether to cover the country with state reps or with named group accounts, because it shows you the overlap: how many of your state lists are really the same handful of owners. One group, every state it touches
operating_states is pipe-delimited and derived from the member rooftops, so a group with stores in nine states carries all nine and answers to a filter on any of them. Nothing in a group record forces you to pick one home state for a company that does not have one.

Every people-shaped field in it - total employees, total decision-makers, HQ employees, HQ decision-makers - is a count, and there are no names, emails or direct dials anywhere in the product. CAN-SPAM and the state privacy statutes therefore bite on the Contacts records you join to a group, not on the group row itself. Hermes Data tracks 1,432 parent dealer groups across the United States and Canada. There is no separate fixed US-only figure, because group geography is a rollup: filter operating_country to US and you get every group with at least one US rooftop, including the cross-border operators that also run stores in Canada.
Does a dealer group belong to only one state?
No. A group carries operating_states, a pipe-delimited list rolled up from the states its member rooftops sit in, so a multi-state group appears under every one of them. This is the main difference from a rooftop database, where each store has a single address. Filtering on a state returns groups that operate there, which is not the same as groups headquartered there.
What is free and what is paid on a US group record?
