What is the Canada vehicle listings data API?

The Canada vehicle listings API is the same read-only REST query API that serves US inventory, pointed at Canadian retail listings. It held 1,238,895 live Canadian listings on August 30, 2026, out of 19,349,581 catalog-wide - Canada is a first-class market here, but it is a much smaller share of the catalog than the United States, and it is worth sizing your project against that before you build. The schema does not change at the border: the same VIN, year, make, model, trim, odometer, price, condition, location and first_seen and last_seen fields come back, with the province code in the same state field the US rows use. For scale, CADA reports that Canada's franchised new-car dealerships employ more than 160,000 people and generate over $28 billion in GDP. One hd_live_ key and one credit wallet cover both countries, so there is no Canadian region to license separately.

One pipeline, both countries

Search with no region filter and you get North American results; add a province code to the state filter and you are scoped to Ontario or British Columbia. Rows sort, page, cost and deserialize exactly as US rows do, so a cross-border product needs no second code path, no second schema mapping and no second vendor contract.

Sized honestly, not padded

We print the Canadian count next to the catalog-wide count deliberately. 1,238,895 against 19,349,581 is the ratio to plan capacity and coverage promises around, and it moves with dealer inventory rather than with our marketing. A vendor that will not tell you how thin its Canadian half is will tell you after you have integrated.

A bilingual market, so read the taxonomy

Canadian dealers publish in English and in French, and taxonomy values come back raw and unnormalized rather than mapped to a tidy list. Pull the live values with counts from /v1_2/listings/taxonomy/terms, or type-ahead them with /v1_2/listings/autocomplete, instead of hardcoding a make, model or body-style menu that a French spelling will quietly fall out of.

Start on 10 free credits

Finish the getting-started walkthrough and 10 credits land in the wallet with no card. That is enough to page roughly 100,000 listings through search, or to wire an integration end to end for a fraction of one credit using point lookups and /v1_2/listings/meta. Credits never expire, and the same wallet spends on every other Hermes product.

Compliance & sourcing

Canadian rows are collected the same way as US rows, from dealer websites and the major aggregate platforms, and both countries sit under one licence - there is no separate Canadian data agreement to negotiate. You may build and sell products derived from the data; you may not republish the listings themselves as a dataset. Where your product surfaces a seller phone number or email pulled from a full record, that is the contact the dealer published on the listing, licensed for your own use rather than for resale or bulk redistribution.

Frequently asked questions

Does the vehicle listings API cover Canada?

Yes - 1,238,895 live Canadian listings on August 30, 2026, across the provinces and territories where dealers publish inventory online. They are served by the same endpoints as US inventory, on the same schema, under the same key. Scoping to a province is a filter on the state field, exactly as scoping to a US state is.

How much of the catalog is Canadian inventory?

Canada is a much smaller share than the United States: 1,238,895 Canadian listings against 19,349,581 catalog-wide on August 30, 2026. We publish the exact figure rather than a rounded-up one, because the ratio is what determines whether the API can carry a Canada-first product or only a Canadian tab on a US one.

Do Canadian listings carry the same fields as US listings?

Yes. The field set does not change at the border - VIN, year, make, model, trim, odometer, price, new and certified flags, location, and first_seen and last_seen. Ask for the full record and you also get options, features, packages, seller phones and emails, and photo URLs. Across the catalog, 96.8% of listings carry at least one photo URL, and we hand you the dealer's own URLs rather than rehosting the images, so fetch them from the source at the point of use.

Do I need a separate plan or region for Canadian data?

No. Listings has no subscription and no regional licensing at all: one hd_live_ key, one shared credit wallet, and a per-call charge that is identical whether the call returns Ontario inventory or Ohio inventory. Buy credits when you need them, spend them on whichever country the query happens to hit, and pay nothing for the regions you do not query.
